The Food Fighters: Fighting Food Disparity in East Tennessee
We are collecting donations to fund a mobile market for BattleField Farm so that the 37915 area code has access to fresh produce, regardless of distance to the nearest grocery store.
Overview
We are a group of four students at the University of Tennessee Knoxville that are looking to serve our communities through an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds for a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. First and foremost, we would like to thank you for giving us your time and attention– it’s not hard to get distracted nowadays.
Our Purpose
We are looking to raise funds for BattleField farm, a local nonprofit founded by Chris Battle, a pastor with a deep passion for the East Knoxville community. In recent years, he has decided to take a “philosophical approach” to building and restoring his community. Having already developed a passion for gardening, he saw this opportunity as a no-brainer.
What Is a Food Desert?
Food deserts are locations that are further than a mile to the nearest grocery store. In the 37915 area code, specifically, Mr. Battle discovered that there are 22 identifiable food deserts. This further ignited his deep passion towards giving back to his community, and ever since then, this has been his life’s commitment.
Be a Part of a Noble Cause!
We hope that you will consider donating, no matter how small or large the sum may be. Any and all proceeds will go straight towards this honorable cause, and we want you to feel happy and secure knowing that you can now consider yourself a part of something far bigger than yourself.
More Ways to Get Involved
If you can’t contribute monetarily, then that is entirely okay! We understand that everybody is in different financial situations, and we do not want that to restrict you from donating to a cause that you care about.
