Hi Everyone! - The short 25 minute film we are making, THE FROZEN GOOSE, is based on a story that came out last year in the short story anthology, 'ENGRAVED: Canadian Stories of World War One'. That story was the LAST story in that amazing collection: a very good place to be!
FINAL DAYS OF THE INDIEGOGO CAMPAIGN: Overall, it would look like we've not done so well with this campaign, but thanks to auxiliary fund-raising efforts, we do have 'lift off'. Your contributions are still very welcome as we race now 'to the wire'. Every penny does count. Thank you for adding your contribution! - mlh
Story Outline: .... Imagine: The dead centre of a cold Canadian winter ... A shell-shocked warrior has lost
his best friend during the horrendous blood-soaked battle at Vimy Ridge in
France. He has returned to Canada to look after
his best friend's family. There is no love, just dull pain, sadness and
a mind-numbing sense of 'duty'. The two children cant stand him. He is a
constant brooding reminder that their fun-loving musical father is gone forever. His best friend's wife adapts to his arrival, but it too is out of duty,
not love. To help their mother, the children decide to fix things. What
starts off as a simple plan soon escalates into a terrifying escapade
of survival & endurance. And then, in a split-second, all their lives change forever ... '

Scene 2 - Farmhouse, Interior: shot set-ups
I have spent several months transposing this heart-wrenching coming-of-age tale into a 'locked' script. Today, the storyboards are complete, (beautifully executed by our hard-working 'nerdy' pals at Jaded Dragon Studio Design); the characters are cast; fabulous locations have been sourced (Southern Ontario Greenbelt in all its Winter Glory), but now the hard part starts .. FULL-ON PRODUCTION.
Who are WE?
Producer Margaret Lindsay Holton is an award-winning mid-career Canadian author, artist and documentary filmmaker . This is her first independent 'fictional' short film & her directorial debut based on her published short story.
The Director of Photography is the visually talented
Mark Zelinski. Mark has photographed & filmed a multitude of families in unique situations and environments around the globe. His eye for detail is acute.
What We Need & What You Get -
We need $27,000 to complete this film for Sept, 2016.
- - $8000 for legal, insurance & location 'site' security (GORGEOUS sites!)
- - $5000 for cast & crew (basic fees for non-union DEVOTED personnel)
- - $3500 for props, costumes & on-site set-dressing (circa 1920....)
- - $8000 for post production (editing, sound design & special effects)
- - $2500 for pre&post admin, festival submissions & distribution packaging
What's in it for you? ---
First off, a humungous THANK YOU!
All contributors to The Frozen Goose will be listed on our website. (You do have the option to remain 'anonymous'.) We are thrilled that Museums of Burlington have offered to help boost this film production with One Day or Annual Family Memberships. We've also got some goodies from The Canadian Red Cross - from floating key chains, hefty mugs, to fantastic EMERGENCY Preparedness kits.
For film aficionados, we are offering e-copies of the locked script, the film poster, copies of the original short story anthology, password access to the final V.O.D version of The Frozen Goose, and, of course, a superbly packaged DVD of the film. For the most generous, we're offering ASSOCIATE PRODUCER CREDIT on the film. And, finally, for just one EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, he or she will be actively involved in International Licensing Agreements AND have First Option on TWO feature length scripts 'in development' by the award-winning writer.
If we are unable to raise all the funds required, well, we will manage ... It will just mean the entire intent & impact of what we know we can achieve will be greatly diminished. So, if you do feel the LOVE for CANADA and ALL CANADIANS do help us 'get it out there'.
In the spirit of Good Will and FULL TRANSPARENCY, we have committed to donate 10% of net revenue from the released film project to the Canadian Red Cross for all the Good Work they have done in devastated areas both at home and abroad. From supportive Youth Programs to 'Meals-on-Wheels', the Canadian Red Cross has been at the forefront of helping those who suffer most. We are honored to give back to this international humanitarian organization - and thank them for allowing us to do so. (Kindly note, contributions to our film are not tax-deductible.)

Your Impact
Your contribution will give us the opportunity to make a good film BETTER. Right now, we've got an excellent and professional cast and crew, but to create a work that has heft 'offshore' - (huge appetite for vintage Canadiana in the British Isles, Germany, France, Indonesia and Japan) - the funds that you generously contribute will help take this effort beyond the local into the global sphere. It can be done.
Pre-Indiegogo Launch 'Teaser B'.

Risks & Challenges
The biggest challenge ahead is the securing of the found locations. Four fabulous sites are located in tightly controlled Conservation Areas. A large part of our
Production Budget has been allocated to satisfy legal, insurance, staff & security requirements.
The Frozen Goose is a wonderful Canadian Story just waiting to be told. It will 'tell' so much better with these carefully chosen sites
.
