Short Summary
Hi, my name is Dean Jefferys. I am a film maker and activist for the environment and the raising of consciousness. I made the ground breaking documentary on the traditional and western use of Ayahuasca ”Shamans of the Amazon” i16 years ago. 8 minutes of this 52 min video can be seen in the extra video section to demonstrate my passion and my capabilities to make this current Doco.
After experiencing the extremely powerful Toad Medicine (5-MeO-DMT) in 2015, with Dr Octavio Rettig, I realised the potential this ritual and molecule has on the transformation of the individual and on effecting a quantum shift in global consciousness.
“The God Molecule and the Shamanic Toad” is a personal journey into the mysterious Shamanic world of the most powerful Entheogenic molecule known to man, 5-MeO-DMT or “The God Molecule” as many are now calling it. Unlike its cousin N,N DMT, used in the Ayahuasca brew 5-MeO-DMT appears only in a few plants and one animal known as the Bufo Alvarius, Sonora desert Toad from Mexico.
The film follows Filmmaker Dean Jefferys, as he travels to Mexico to meet the Toad and to experience 5-MeO-DMT rituals with many different Practitioners. He will explore issues around the Toads vulnerability including the impact that this new demand on its venom is havin on its populations viability. We also explore the vulnerability of initiate humans smoking this Toad venom.
Inspired by a vision during his first Toad ritual Dean will visit the Mayan pyramid of Kukulkan in the Chichen Itza complex in Yucatán and hear from Mayan Elders who are still holding the knowledge of the ancestors and still connected to the energy of the Sun.
We explore Deans deep connection with the whales and reveal what the Toads and the Whales are sharing with humanity at this time.
Interspersed throughout the film will be shots and interviews with key Toad Practitioners as well as Dean and others being initiated into different styles of Toad rituals. The Film will hear how this powerful molecule has effected their lives and explore how this molecule and ritual can create a quantum shift in Global consciousness. The above title is a working title and depending on what unfolds in Mexico the Title could change to "The Toad, the Whale, and the Sun"
What We Need & What You Get
I have already begun interviewing specific people on 5-MeO-DMT, yet I need to get to Mexico asap to meet the Toad face to face while it is out of hibernation during the wet month of August. I have extended this crowd funding campaign for another 2 weeks to allow more people to become involved and support this journey. The Synopsis is evolving and for now I have decided to postpone the Ecuador and Venezuela shoot. The good news is by dropping the Ecuador and Venezuela shoot, for now, I will need to raise around $5000 less than the previous budget of $8000. At this point I have money for my airfare and just need to raise another $2000 to keep me alive and moving in Mexico for 4 weeks and around $1300 to get a Phantom 3, 4K drone with accessories to capture some of the spectacular landscapes I will be interacting with throughout Mexico. This aerial footage will contribute significantly to the films cinematic power and style. This crowdfunding is just for some of the filming and Production costs. Post production will be another campaign. The Title and Synopsis may change and evolve.
The Impact
In 1998 when I started making “Shamans of the Amazon” I realised many people were using these sacred and powerful medicines like Ayahuasca and DMT, without proper guidance. “Shamans of the Amazon” was probably the first detailed documentary to be made about Ayahuasca and gave people a cultural and western perspective about using these powerful shamanic plants. “Shamans of the Amazon” was screened on Australian TV and pirated and shared on the internet by tens of millions. It has become an important cult film made for that time. I believe “The God Molecule and the Shamanic Toad” will be the same for this time and I believe has the potential along with the Toad, to effect the evolution of human consciousness.
Risks & Challenges
I could die in the Amazon or I could be shot from a cannon into the heart of God or both. As I have already spent nearly 3 years in the Amazon filming and experienced many deep Ayahuasca and Toad ceremonies so I should be fine. I plan to give a detailed explanation of my experiences and interview the Shamans about this powerful medicine.
