Short Summary
I have been broke. I
have faced homelessness. While I was struggling with my financial and
personal situation, I learned a skill. I know how to make soap with a
few simple ingredients.
Once I learned how to make my
own soap, I started selling it at the local Farmer's Market and
through Facebook. It is thrilling, the ability to produce something
out of a few ingredients and being able to buy groceries or pay for
school expenses for my children! I figured if I can do this on a
small scale, perhaps I can also make my enterprise a little larger
and give something back to the community in the process. So, I came
up with the idea of using soap making to help others who are facing
the same situation I am. What if I had a lot of ingredients and I
could make a lot of soap? What if I could teach others to make soap?
Would that help people in homeless and domestic violence shelters? It
would be one less expense for them and it would be a way for me to
continue improving my manufacturing process! I think that would
qualify as a win-win situation, don't you? We are ready to pay it
forward by donating our soap and providing free workshops to those
living in homeless and domestic violence shelters. We will provide
educational resources and teach those interested in learning and
developing their own small business.
Our goal is to help
individuals transitioning out of shelters move from a life of
dependence/homelessness to one of self-reliance, overcoming barriers
to employment through the fruits of their own labor. Reaching out to
the Volusia/Flagler Coalition for the Homeless and the Volusia County
Domestic Violence Coalition, we will identify individuals who are
ready to make this transition to a new phase in their lives.
I would like to
invite you to contribute to my campaign and my idea. Perhaps together
we can build my humble soap co into something that will help a
homeless person or a victim of domestic violence take a step towards
overcoming their difficulties and regaining their independence. Won't
you join me?

What happens if the
campaign is over funded?
What happens if we
exceed our goal? WE KEEP GOING.
More molds. More
classes. More soap. More equipment. We expand our outreach area to shelters in other counties. We
hire an employee. A proper soap studio open to the public. Marketing
to the local community and selling our products. A permanent,
on-going project for years to come.
Risks &
Challenges
It will take a lot
of effort and collaboration to make this a successful project, but I
have been making soap and selling it for over 3 years and am
confident we can make the humble soap project a great success!
