Our Story
Community Supported Shelters (CSS) has been experimenting with micro-housing solutions in Eugene, Oregon for nearly four years. During the Occupy Eugene event we were contacted about a single-mother with a child staying at the Occupation Site that didn't have a tent. We quickly looked around our shop for materials so we could build a dry and semi-warm shelter. We gathered a cattle panel, two pallets, plywood, rolls of vinyl, carpet, and bags of insulation. With these materials we made the first Conestoga Hut! Since then we have re-designed the Conestoga hut, built, and sited six more huts with the outpouring of support from eager community volunteers. The orders for more Conestoga huts continue to come in.
This campaign is focused on expanding the CSS volunteer work party tool box. Supplying volunteers with the appropriate tools they need supports their effectiveness and productivity. Additionally, it empowers volunteers to take a more active role assisting the homeless in our community through this unique housing program.
By donating to this campaign you can expect to be part of a team creating micro-housing for the people who need it.

The Goal and the BIGGER GOAL!
If we raise
$700 more than our goal we will also be able to create a
volunteer training video made by
Vanguard Media in Eugene, Oregon. This video will be used to prepare volunteers before a work party so they have a clearer understanding of how the huts go together!
If we raise
more than $3000 we will use the additional funds to buy
additional tools to support our shop and the construction of micro-houses!
If we don't reach our goal of $2300 we will prioritize which tools are needed most for holding successful and safe work party events and purchase what we are able.
