How it Came to be
After the recent negative attention at Waking Life Espresso, Sarah Winkler, a two and half year employee, found herself leaving a job and many customers she loved. Unwilling to compromise her morals
and accept a severance, Sarah instead has decided to turn this into a positive for
herself, her customers, and the community. With the collaborative efforts of two like minded friends, Trade and Lore Asheville was founded!

Along Came Lindsey!
Sarah went to visit Lindsey Pitman of The Daily Press CLT and while sitting down over coffee an idea was formed. Within minutes it had been decided, there was no better way to show gratitude to the community that has surrounded Sarah with support than to open a specialty coffee shop with a focus on empowerment, equality, and an initiative for advocacy.

What we'll do
Though unfortunate, this situation has given the community the opportunity to express its commitment to inclusiveness, equality, and awareness. Continuing that commitment, Trade and Lore Coffee will provide the same high quality coffee product while also supporting those ideals. We intend to work closely with like-minded local non-profits and businesses, to provide a fair living wage for staff, to source our ingredients locally - using
Mountain Air Roasting coffee, local bakers, and purveyors.
Why your support is crucial
In order to get our doors open, we'll will need to need to finish the upfit, purchase equipment locally, prepare the storefront, and hire and train additional staff. We've already secured a majority of our
$65,000 budget from local lenders and working second jobs, That leaves $15,000 we are hoping to fund from the community.
We will be posting our progress along the way. Though there may be bumps in the road, we are committed to this idea and the community it will create.
