SUMMARY
WAYO is a new non-commercial, low-power FM radio station in Rochester, NY, that will provide expansive musical and cultural programming rooted in the Rochester community, including diverse and idiosyncratically curated music; original comedic, dramatic, and musical performance; interesting and relevant talk; and voices underrepresented in the Rochester media. By emphasizing creative freedom, human personality, and diversity of voices, WAYO will create engaging and adventurous experiences for listeners. Content will be available through radio broadcast as well as online streaming and archiving.
The station’s founders have all been active in the Rochester cultural community for years as musicians, artists, curators, and performers and collectively have decades of experience in non-commercial radio. Additionally, WAYO’s community roots are enhanced by an affiliation with the Multi-Use Community Cultural Center, a theatrical venue that encourages, promotes, and provides a space for productions by local companies.
After two and a half years of work, the essential elements are in place. The station has obtained legal approval from the FCC to broadcast, and has secured both a broadcast tower and a studio space at the former location of the legendary Saxon Recording studio at the Fedder Industrial Park on East Main Street. We have begun accepting applications and already have more than twenty-five programs selected for the station.
For more information, including a full list of forthcoming programs, please see: http://www.wayofm.org.
WHAT WE NEED
While we have come so far, we need your
help to make the station a reality. We
are asking for donations to cover initial costs, such as equipment to broadcast
over the air, stream online, and record in-studio live performances. We are also asking for your support to cover
the first year’s fixed costs such as rent, utilities, and insurance. WAYO is a labor of love for us, and any financial
support you can provide would mean the world to us. We have great perks at all levels of donation
as a thank you.
