Wonder takes place in the basements and back hallways where the creepiest corporate deals are made, and we need your help to make our small production the highest possible quality so it stands out from the internet crowd. We’ve been hard at work on Wonder for over a year, and we’ve already made some incredible progress:
Wonder has been chosen for fiscal sponsorship by Fractured Atlas*, a major arts organization. This means that we have access to resources for nonprofit arts projects and any donations we get are tax-deductible for the donors.
We have already raised our first $1,000 in individual donations.
We have established an online presence at our gorgeous website.
Our first official read-through was a smashing success. You can see clips of it (and other exclusive content!) here.
These are wonderful milestones. The next step is to raise the remaining funds we need so we can film this project!
We have edited down our costs dramatically, but in order to bring you the highest caliber series possible, we need at least $13,000. Here's how that breaks down:
Raising money in this artistic climate is getting harder and harder. In a world where nearly every piece of work is adapted, inspired, or based on an existing work, funding for new, original content is becoming increasingly limited. And so, we're counting on you and your interest in what we believe to be a groundbreaking new series.
Even so, all of the challenges ahead of us are positive. The first is to raise this money to create a trope-defying science fiction show with Season 1 of Wonder. Once we meet our goal, or exceed it, we get to the most exciting challenge yet: to produce Wonder and share it with all of you. The bar we've set is very high - we need to create the world of Greyhaven Industries, no small task when you imagine the complex technology we'll have to mimic on a relatively small budget.
Dana Sumner-Pritchard (Lucy Chase) graduated from Drew University in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts and Creative Writing (or as she likes to call it, Feelings and Making Things Up). She has trained with Atlantic Theater Company, Movement Theater Studio, and several fantastic clown teachers throughout New York. Dana has recently worked on several new works, including Kathryn Funkhouser's We're Not So Different, You & I with the Radium Girls and a super awesome little clown piece called The Best Thing Ever, which totally lived up to its name. She also toured her solo show Boobs and Hope to sold out houses in Santa Cruz, CA, Chicago, and North Carolina in 2013.
When not writing about herself in third person, Dana likes cheese, cats, Jason Segel, her sister, and cheese again, because cheese is so good it deserves two mentions. She aspires to be Linda Belcher when she grows up. Follow her on twitter @danaexmachina.
Lee Ann Hoover (Margo Mason) began acting at the age of eight after she was cast as the Wicked Witch of the West and learned she could throw fireballs onstage with impunity. She went on to study acting at the London Dramatic Academy and Drew University. After undergrad, Lee Ann shifted her attention to film because Jaws 4: The Age of Jaws isn't going to make itself. Nowadays, Lee Ann is hard at work on her second full-length screenplay. She is also in pre-production for her first short film Hammurabi, which she wrote and will direct this October. Her spirit animal is the kangaroo.
Kayla Bowers (Janet) graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Theatre Arts from Drew University, and bravely moved to New York City during the polar vortex of 2014 to pursue an acting career. She first discovered her love of storytelling when she was required to play Gloria Estefan in an elementary school play. She accidentally crazy-glued fake nails to her fingers for the part, but to this day, it was worth it. Kayla was recently an Associate Producer for an awesome web series called L.A. Macabre, and has been working on making Wonder a reality for over a year. When she isn’t working or spending hours in coffee shops for production meetings, she can be found visiting home in Newport, Rhode Island, hunting down the perfect mac and cheese recipe, and doing a mean Joan Cusack impression for anyone who will listen. Kayla is thrilled for everyone to see what Wonder has to offer, and is especially looking forward to playing the role of Janet.
Kathryn Funkhouser (Screenwriter) writes essays, plays, lyrics, stories, TV, and comedy. She has contributed to publications such as The Toast, The Nation, The Atlantic, and The Archipelago. NYC productions of her plays include We're Not So Different, You and I at the Radioactive Festival andThe Sequel at the Brick Theatre. She acquired a B.A. and an affection for ragtag bands of lovable misfits from Drew University. Her superpowers include flawless song parody and enticing brilliant people to collaborate with her via hypnotic amulet - er, friendship. Right. Friendship. Follow her on Twitter @KatFunkhouser.
We completely understand that some people just can't contribute financially. But you can still contribute! Please consider sharing this campaign with your friends and family on Facebook, Twitter, by carrier pigeon, whatever! Every click counts. And of course, please subscribe to Wonder's YouTube channel and watch the show!
