ABOUT YOOT
Yoot teas are carefully crafted from ancient, traditional recipes used for generations in family kitchens to promote and allow deep healing, vitality and joyful surrender to nature’s wisdom. We are dedicated to offering a premium, organic, barely sweetened herbal energy tea that provides a natural rejuvenation to rival caffeinated drinks.
We will go to production in less than two months and due to our co-packers high minimums, we are calling on our health-conscious community to get behind our beverage start-up. Soon, you will be able to find our products in most natural grocers, but due to varying category reset schedules, this Indiegogo campaign will allow us to presell directly to our consumers and help carry us over the first year hump.
Co-founder Nansee Kim-Parker taps into her heritage for every brew. Her parents prepared homemade teas for her chronic gastrointestinal problems when she was a child. As an adult, Nansee consulted family recipes to support her husband's health after he lost his spleen in a motorcycle accident. After the birth of their first child, Nansee crafted her
own teas to stay alert without copious amounts of caffeine and sugar. Being mindful of the ingredients that would
pass onto her newborn, she formulated the herbal teas using common food
ingredients.
Co-founder Shawn Parker is a motorcycle enthusiast and foodie. Shawn helps to test out flavor profiles prior to formulation. Feeling much better thanks to her teas, he successfully launched a new motorcycle repair business in 2011.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE
In the past two years, we have completed the commercial
formulation, ingredient sourcing, branding, and trademark work. We’ve already
produced our first sample batch of the three Yoot root tea brews with our
contract manufacturer in the Midwest. We have already signed up with a major
distributor for the Eastern region, which was brokered by a large retailer. We
also have a local, regional distributor lined up for the Western region.
WHY WE NEED THE FUNDING
Because our contract manufacturer requires a minimum run
quantity of 30,000 per line and we have three lines, which is 30k x 3 = 90,000
bottles of Yoot! Making a premium herbal tea using only non-GMO, organic,
and/or wild-crafted ingredients also comes at a price. We will be using the funds to pay for the
first production run, which includes:
·
contract manufacturing fee (production and
packaging)
·
glass bottles and caps
·
labels
·
shipping/storage fees
·
last remaining ingredients
NOT JUST ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE
Yoot is a for-profit company, but we also want to
incorporate a positive impact on society. We will contribute one percent of our
profits to TeenForce, a self-sustaining non-profit organization that helps
foster teens (ages 14-20) gain work experience in the San Francisco Bay
Area.
As we grow, we intend to hire teens through TeenForce. We
agree that when teens become healthy, caring, and responsible young adults who
have important roles in the community, the roots of the community become
stronger.
As we expand we will also contribute to similar non-profit
organizations that work with empowering youth across America.
ABOUT THE ROOT BREWS
All our herbal teas are brewed using organic or wildcrafted ingredients. We believe nature knows best and lab created energy drinks can only provide a sharp spike in energy. After all...what goes up, must come crashing down! So many beverages on the market either use artificial sweeteners or copious amounts of sugar, caffeine, and/or chemicals. We believe that nature provides, and Mother Earth knows best. All of our products are:
- Non-GMO verified, organic, kosher
- Caffeine-free
- Barely sweetened using organic sugar and/or organic molasses

RISKS AND CHALLENGES
We feel very comfortable about the success of our brand. We have a commercial manufacturer contracted, with all batch testing completed in January 2015. We’ve already finalized distribution with a major national distributor, UNFI East and soon with Renaissance Specialty Foods. We also pilot tested a launch at Natural Products Expo West to test the interest from industry buyers and we were overwhelmed with the reception from buyers. And to put the cherry on top, out of 2600 exhibitors in our category, we were one of 61 exhibitors to be nominated a Nexty for "Next New Trend for 2015!"
That said, there could be some delays if there are significant issues with one of our ingredient suppliers or shipping providers.
