The Neem Karoli Baba Ashram and Hanuman Temple in Taos was started over 40 years ago by Western devotees of Sri Neem Karoli Baba, who is affectionally known as Maharaj-ji. All of Maharaj-ji's temples and ashrams in India have close associations with Hanuman. It has now been a great many years since Hanuman flew to America and landed in Taos. Since then he has made his home in what was once a hundred-year-old cow barn, where he sits atop the original mango-wood crate in which he first arrived. Over time, the rustic barn has been transformed into the beautiful temple that it is today. In the beginning, when only a handful of devotees came together to bask in Maharaj-ji's great love, sing and share food, the makeshift temple space was adequate.

As Hanuman's message of unconditional love and service has spread, the Taos ashram has grown into a place of refuge for many more than we could ever have imagined. Every day, the sweet sounds of the Hanuman Chaleesa reverberate throughout the temple, sunroom, and kitchen. Every week, hundreds of people are lovingly fed. On weekends, upwards of 200 devotees, seekers and visitors come from near and far to receive blessings, participate in seva, and engage in bhakti practices. Many hundreds of people come for festivals, yet only 70 people can fit into the small temple room.

Many yearn to sit inside and join with satsang but must remain in the adjacent sunroom or even outside. The new temple will create a space large enough for all who wish to gather together in love and devotion.

Ever since Hanuman was installed in his current location, devotees have dreamed of creating a beautiful space for him: A sacred space for satsang to gather in love and devotion. Now the building of the new temple is finally being realized. The construction of the new temple is beginning!

We have raised approximately 25% of the funds to complete the building, enough to start! Everyone's enthusiastic and generous participation will help ensure that the remainder of the funds necessary to complete the project are in hand. All contributions, large and small, will help make the completion of the temple in the fall of 2018 possible! All donations will go directly to the Hanuman Temple Fund and are tax deductible as allowed by law.

The unique design of the temple echoes the adobe architecture of the southwest while incorporating the distinctive features of a classical Indian temple. The result is a striking 2500 square foot building which is spacious yet intimate, at home in New Mexico while honoring the traditions of the ancient east.
