Aer Liber is a Dutch / Romanian non profit initiative to offer support
to Roma communities in Romania. Aer Liber freely translates to
open air and stands for:
a safe and free place to live and work
keeping it simple, by working with who and what we know
trusting in friendship, building relationships and taking our time
Our primary focus of work lies in the area of Targu Mures in Romania, where we will work together with local charities Laleau and Roma Care.
Why we ask for your support...
'In 2008 I went to
Romania for the first time, as a volunteer for Care Foundation, a Dutch aid
organisation working with a Roma community in Tarnaveni. Even with my experience representing the New York Gypsy Film Festival in Europe, I was
not prepared for the raw reality. From one moment to the next I stepped from a
friendly looking Romanian street into the slums. A stark and shocking contrast.
Here I found friendship and respect. People are inventive, resilient and the
more I saw, the more I wanted to do.' Lee

& What will we do with it?
NOW: We have already raised 2000 EUROS. We need at
least 5000 EUROS more, as the first 7000 EUROS are
to be invested in OUR HOUSE OUR HOME. A Roma family gets a fresh start
in a new home, with their own land to cultivate.
NEXT: All additional funds raised will be reserved for
setting up a fair trade workshop in Romania in ATELIER AER LIBER.

1. OUR HOUSE OUR HOME
Many of the Romani in Europe live in illegal and improvised accommodation. Even with the best intentions these cannot be called a house. Or a home. They are close to or on landfills, abandoned toxic industrial wasteland and other ominous locations at the edge of the world.
A
form of segregation that is hard to imagine, but that is still part of everyday
life in some European countries. A reality that proves difficult to change.
But
it CAN change.
Offer
a family the chance to work on a better life. With the right local guidance
sustainable living is within reach. It gives them the opportunity to grow crops
and rear small livestock for their own use and small scale sales. Housing and
supporting a family increases their capacity to impact their environment. Not
only can they do more for their children, but also
for their community. Pay it forward!

ATELIER AER LIBER
AER LIBER collaborates with Asociatia Laleau, who have set up a woodcraft workshop for young
adults. Alongside this there will be a safe and sound workplace for women. Together with the team of AER LIBER
we will start this up. We offer marketing and merchandise advice, stock our web
shop and external vendors.
YOUR MONEY helps us to create a workplace
in Romania. We set out small and focus on sustainable design and production,
using donated and recycled materials. We believe in simplicity.
YOUR
MATERIALS helps us to divert the endless stream
of second hand and surplus stock in a positive direction. From the landfills to
long term prospects. Our product line will consist mainly of fashion and interior
design items, but we love to be surprised! For more information, please contact
