This is the PRODUCTION CROWDFUND for Boxtown: Episode 1!
Boxtown is an indie animated noir buddy comedy about a con man detective (played by Alex Hirsch, creator of Gravity Falls and voice of Bill Cipher, Grunkle Stan and Hooty) who teams up with an innocent, true-crime-obsessed orphan with a hidden murderous side (played by Tara Strong, known as the voice of Twilight Sparkle, Timmy Turner, Miss Minutes in Loki, and Ben 10).

My name is Charlie G. I’m a director and storyboard artist in the animation industry. Boxtown is an incredibly personal project that I’ve been developing for years. The world of Boxtown is like a funhouse mirror version of ours—in both, corporations and capitalism have run rampant. Boxtown just happens to also be filled with flamboyant private eyes, gangsters that wouldn’t look out of place in Batman’s rogues' gallery, a knife-wielding dog in a trench coat, and an effete French king running a street gang.

Fun fact: This is actually our second campaign! Last year we raised over $30,000 to fund Boxtown’s pre-production, which allowed us to develop the show in its early stages, begin storyboarding, and create some excellent voiceovers.
This current crowdfund, the PRODUCTION CROWDFUND, will support us through the rest of production for the first episode of Boxtown, including finished animation, music, and release.

Why Support Boxtown?
Our team combines seasoned TV animation talent with fresh indie animation talent to create something that feels new but like a progression of the legacy that has come before. It includes artists and writers who are veterans of shows like Inside Job, Clarence, Steven Universe, Gravity Falls, Rick and Morty, and Bojack Horseman, along with new artistic talents from the indie animation scene.

Boxtown is aimed primarily at adults and would be considered TV-MA. It has violence and profanity, but also an appealing look and design sensibility that doesn’t fit in neatly with the standard “intentionally crude” look seen in many adult animated family comedies. Therefore, the indie animation space is the perfect place for Boxtown to exist. We want to make it with the best production value possible, which is why this latest crowdfunding campaign is so important.
Plus, when it's all said and done, you'll have an awesome, hilarious new animated show to obsess over, created by and starring some of the most talented creators and artists out there!

Also, the Entertainment Industry is fucking scary right now
I don’t know if you’ve heard, but the commercial animation industry is… not in a great place right now. Major studios are implementing drastic cost-cutting, job-obliterating measures, and they seem to be more interested in promoting safe, already-proven intellectual properties if they make anything at all. This is why we, animation fans and creators, need to get creative about how to move big-budget, original animation forward. We have seen what animation can achieve when creators are unrestrained by networks—look no further than shows like Hazbin Hotel and Lackadaisy.
The journey to creating Boxtown has already spawned something really special—our active, welcoming, and creative community. This is a space where folks not only interested in Boxtown can congregate, but where those dedicated to changing the status quo of contemporary animation can collaborate. You’re cordially invited to join us in our shenanigans, which include community-building hangs like virtual movie nights, memes, and regular updates on what’s new in Boxtown. Let us embrace our power to drive our creative culture forward. Let us help create stories with Boxtown that might, just maybe, be you and your sister’s next favorite episode of animation. Boxtown could be that one show that you’re always constantly reloading the YouTube page of, WAITING for that new episode to drop. Or the one that’s suddenly everywhere, and you can’t stand it anymore. Or the one your dad finds funny. Or the one that inspires you to pick up a pen and tell a story of your own.
Let us be the ones to help shape the future of animation and ensure that it remains a powerful force for good in our society. Let’s make Boxtown together, and make it good.
Like, really good.
