I was brought up with a war
Young people
from all over
Stray off and cross the lines
It’s a dialogue that we’re seeking
And we’re running out of time"
(From the opening song, “One to Three” on the album East Jerusalem, West Jerusalem)
I have always worked alone and away from the politics which
surround me. Yet I have always sung of peace.
This new album pushes aside our inherent prejudices, and for 8 days and 8
nights, we sang of love, some politics and peace. The film captures these moments
beautifully.
The album's title song is a duet with Wyclef Jean:
Of the 13 tracks on the
album, there are cover versions of songs written by Cat Stevens, Roger Waters,
Elvis Costello, and others, as well as several new songs by me.
There are endless moments that are yet to be exposed,
and I would like to bring them out and
let the audience view the magic that took place. There are behind-the-scenes
interactions in the kitchens with the Israeli and Palestinian chefs. There are
interviews with the different musicians – some Israeli, some Palestinian. There
are thirteen songs in the album and their
accompanying videos need to be edited.
About David Broza
My professional career started in 1977 when I wrote and recorded my
first song, in Hebrew, Yihye Tov (Things Will Be Better). Since then I
have recorded over 350 songs and performed on stages all over the
world. I have had the great pleasure of sharing the stage with some of
the world's most renowned artists: Paul Simon, Sting, Van Morrison,
Jackson Browne, Shawn Colvin, Al DiMeola, Wyclef Jean, Steve Earle,
Paco de Lucia, El Niño Josele and many others. I have recorded albums in
Hebrew, English and Spanish. Throughout my career, I have dedicated my
style to focus around the Spanish guitar. I play a handmade guitar
crafted by one of the world's greatest luthiers, Manuel Contreras from
Madrid, Spain, and his son Pablo Contreras. I continue to write and
produce new albums. My latest project, East Jerusalem West Jerusalem,
resulted in a film reflecting my work, and shows the realization of a
life-long dream.
