Plotline
After a successful first date, Walter thinks he has found “the one” in Vanessa...at least until she discovers him on an app called ‘Ex’D’. There, his exes have left scathing reviews about him and their past relationships. Can Walter make things right with his past before it ruins his future with Vanessa?
Why This Film?
We constantly use our phones to read reviews on restaurants, movies, and products before deciding if it would be worth our time and money. What if we did the same with the people we were interested in dating? And, what if those reviews were written by people who dated them before? Ex’D explores this concept in a comical and relatable way. It touches on the issues of online dating, relationships, the #MeToo movement, and the millennial culture in an unexpected way.
Background
Originally, I came up with the idea for this movie after seeing an AT&T Film Competition in 2017. We had seven days to write a script, film it using an smartphone, and edit it to submit into the contest. It was my first short film I ever wrote and directed with my friends as the actors. Even though it was shot in such a short amount of time, we received a lot of great feedback. I had the chance to elaborate on the script during my final writing class at Clayton State University. Ultimately, it was chosen by three producers to be made for our Thesis Film.
