--Summary--
The
goal of this project is to promote new ways of working with foods,
drinks and bio stuff. With your help we establish an open food lab at an
amazing international event where people can learn, experiment, discuss
and do whatever seems fun around the topics mentioned above. Based on
the previous successful events we have found that the impact on boosting the peoples
creativity is great both on the international and local level. With
every year we grow stronger being able to do more for happy life in
harmony by our means in an independent way thanks to your support!
--Introduction-- who are we and what do we do
Food
Hacking Base (fhb) is an open group of people from all over the world
who share the love of experimenting with foods, beverages and bio stuff.
We have been promoting these concepts on major hacker events for years
now and did also some touring. We report on are activities on our wikies, blogs, coordinate through our discuss list and by IRC, Facebook,
Twitter well you name it. We are into building tools and coming up with
new technologies often based on ancient wisdom of traditional societies
merging our ancestors knowledge with today's scientific understanding
and technology. Having a good time enjoying excellent food and drinks
are important to us too, we do not miss any opportunity to hang out
having fun :-)
During
our events you can just pop in joining or giving one of our donation
based workshops, present and chat about some cool idea, cook your
favorite dish, just have your pick. We build and run facilities which
are supporting these activities like experimental kitchen, workshop
venue, biolab, washing area etc. We are documenting what we do sharing
that with the community as our contribution to the open source paradigm
with the hope of changing the world for the better and "enjoying the
ride!"

If
you would like to know more about what we plan for 31c3, please check
the section --This project, bullet points--, for more detail information
how we are going to run the base at the 31c3 and use the money from
this campaign please check --The Base in detail--. The "real time" info is on our
FHB assembly 31c3 wiki pages. Many thanks for
spreading the word around and for your support, with love your fhb team!
--This project-- bullet points
This
campaign aims to build food&beverage&bio hacking hub at the
31c3, an appropriate place shared and run by the community where we can
all play. Last year we set up with big help from 30c3 orga first fully
functional fhb with workshop venue, experimental kitchen, presentation
desk and multimedia corner on an indoor event. This year we will add
biolab where we want to demonstrate some aseptic techniques, do some
microscopy, pH measurements etc. As usually we need tools and equipment
(pots, pans, stoves), and of course food ingredient! We'll need all of
these to make exotic and exciting experiments and make our hacking
accessible getting people into this as we did at OHM2013, the last CCC
camp in Finowfurt, 28c3, 29c3, 30c3 congresses and on our tours.
Donations
which we receive and do not use will be set aside for the future
projects and events, and possibly for compensations of some of the
travel and participation cost of people involved.
If you want to know more about how the FHB will be used, please read on at the chapter --The base--.
--The base-- in detail
CCC
congresses are major hacker events where we provide open environment
for food, beverage and bio hacking. Last year we have done the main push
for building and running the necessary facilities on an indoor event
and it was a big success! Now we want to improve it based on the
previous experience and new trends which are coming and we embrace
needing your help to do so!
We
will build a decent experimental kitchen where you can
food&beverage hack, it should suit 4 people at time quite well. The
workshop venue should fit up to 15 people for hands on workshops and
20-25 for tastings, importantly all donation based no one turned away
for lack of funds. You can therefore learn from an experienced people
how to make variety of things and taste numerous samples to get an
overview on given topic like cheese, wine, kimchi etc. We have again on
the list the presentation venue, biolab and variety of supportive
infrastructure like washing area, multimedia center, the chill out
corner is self explanatory, isn't? This years "new thing" is setting up a
biolab which will allow us deeper insight into some of our experiments
and it will also open whole new area of topics to play with like variety
of aseptic techniques which we can use for growing mushrooms etc. It will be first time for the biolab so please be patient, thank you. We
provide this to the community knowing that promotion of good food and
drinks to our fellow
hackers is very needy and important thing to do indeed. It works like
this: first we get the attention of the people by giving away delicious
tasters. When we get their interest up we invite them to further
"elucidate" themselves both theoretically and practically, learning
during hands on workshops how to make their own kombucha, kimchi, growing
mushrooms or building their own incubator, the topics are as numerous
as people who are involved. We document our activities online, our fhb wiki portal
is dedicated to that. So it is really up to your preference, you can
pop in, have look and hang out a bit but also experiment wildly and
share with the community, we do our best to provide for all.
The
true value of what we do stretches further beyond this event. It is the
inspiration, bringing the people together around these topics and
building a network of enthusiast who help each other to carry on in
their activities in their own hackerspaces and homes, that is what
matters! This is making the hacker movement more social and "human soft"
with the ancient art of food and drinks in it's core, keeping it up to
date based on an open source paradigm. It brought peace into the lives
of our forefathers for thousands of years, let's cherish it too.
If
you'd like to know in further detail how your money will be spent, we
invite you to take a look at our 31c3 wiki page especially on the budget section.
We
want to redistribute our equipment, tools and building material after
the event to the communities and people who want to use it, hoping that
some of it will join us again temporarily at the future events, please
get in touch if interested! We really don't like stuff laying around
under the dust to the "next time", "now is the time to use me" sounds
much better to us.
We hope to see you at 31c3 at our spot, many thanks for supporting us, we really appreciate it! :-)
Bitcoins - we are very happy to accept Bitcoins (more than any other currencies to be honest), please use this wallet!

--The goals--
€1000
- The Food Hacking Base basic set up. We will be able to build
necessary infrastructure for experimental kitchen and workshops.
€1500 - Basic Biolab will be possible. We will also be able to buy some better equipment which we can use on the future events.
€2500
- and over. We can plan our infrastructure in a such manner that we
can reuse it more easily on the future event and we can run things without looking on every penny which would be less stressful.
