Summary
The Korean dog meat trade is no easy subject. While it may seem like a black and white issue, the reality is that there is much more complexity to it. Culturally and Historically, eating dog meat has been seen as having medicinal powers, and is eaten during the 3 hottest days in South Korea, known as Boknal, with the belief it will keep oneself cool.
Cultural and historical facts aside, many of the dogs raised for human consumption endure a lifetime of abuse and brutal living conditions. Most are killed by electrocution, strangulation by hanging, beaten to death, blow torched or some boiled alive. The legality of dog meat is in a grey area, with little to no action being taken against the torture.
As a result, the abuse of Korean dogs in these conditions remains a topic not known by many. A team of documentarians will be heading to South Korea themselves to film the conditions that these dogs are kept in. This documentary will not just aide in getting these dogs the help they need, but raise awareness about the issue.
