Overview
Granada Nights is a self-discovery story about an uncultured British tourist, who must get over his ex-girlfriend and mend his broken heart before he can find love in the hedonistic, international student city of Granada Spain.
en español abajo

Granada Nights is a self-discovery story about Ben, who’s stuck in the UK whilst his long-term girlfriend is studying abroad in Granada, Spain. She’s stopped returning his calls, so Ben drops everything and flies to Spain to save his relationship. But when he gets there, it’s too late. She’s moved on with another guy.

Heartbroken, Ben struggles to adapt to the Spanish culture and it’s only when he meets a group of backpackers and International students that he starts to push himself out of his comfort zone. With his new foreign friends he crashes into the hedonistic student scene. But behind every corner there’s always a reminder of his ex and his struggle to find closure.

At the heart of this story, it's about a search for belonging in a foreign city and the deep friendships you make when you study/live abroad.

10 years ago I decided film school wasn’t for me. I wanted to make films but had nothing to say. So I decided to use the money I saved up for film school to travel to Granada, Spain to study Spanish for a month. That month turned into a year and one of the best experiences in my life. It changed me and helped define the person and filmmaker I am today.

I thought this experience was personal to me but when I spoke to other study-abroad students and backpackers they all share the same feeling that living and studying in a foreign country is the most amazing, life changing moment in your life. It’s a time when you are forced out of your comfort zone, where you learn to adapt, to reach out and make long lasting friendships, live a new lifestyle and get lost in a sea of diverse cultures and experiences.

A decade later, the close friends I made still talk fondly about our shared experiences. I'm making this film for them and to all people who have studied or lived abroad.

It’s important this film needs to be made now. With the rise of Trump, the Far Right, racism, bigotry, terrorism, BREXIT and the refugee crisis - we need to remind people why it's essential to come together and try to understand one another. We want to unite people over their similarities whilst celebrating our diversity.

Everyone falls in love with Granada. I’m excited to show you one of the oldest, most complex, magical places in Spain. Next to the Sierra Nevada mountains of Andalusia in Southern Spain, this city gave us the Spanish Inquisition and anarchy. Christianity and Islam traded places, shared space and the effects and influences of all those things are still evident today. It’s a unusual city full of foreigners from flamenco gypsies, nomadic hippies, Moroccans & British expats and thousands of international students who live and study here.

We need $20,000 in order to start production in Spring 2017. These funds will also go towards location fees including shooting at the Alhambra Palace and Gardens, Hamaam Baths and the Gypsy Flamenco Caves. Other costs include Camera, Light and Sound equipment and hiring a Steadicam Operator which will help raise the production value of our film. The rest will go towards feeding our crew and cheap hostel accommodation.

Be part of the film! Contribute today and you can submit your own favourite student/backpacking/Erasmus photo for our film's opening credits or within the film’s storyline itself. You can name a character, become an extra, even start your Acting career and have a small speaking role in the film! And if you’re too shy, we’re also offering production roles for anyone who wants to be behind the camera, hold the boom pole or join in the fun. You'll also get an official Feature Film IMDB credit and invite to our exclusive Wrap Party!

We're even offering an all-inclusive holiday to Granada! This includes flights, accommodation, airport transfers and tickets to the Alhambra Palace and Gardens AND I'll personally take you on a tapas tour myself!

For a smaller donations we are offering a copy of the Film, Script, Soundtrack, digital posters, Granada city guide and Phrasebook of any European language you choose - includes all the things they don’t teach you in language school!

We also have tickets to the UK Premiere Screening with Cast and Crew, Wrap Party in Granada and if you’re a high roller an exclusive invite to our Investor party at the Cannes Film Festival in 2017!

Shooting abroad is always a challenge and increases risk but we at Eyefive Films already have the experience of shooting short films in Granada, NYC, Montreal and Berlin with an international cast and crew. The script was written in Granada, where we have the amazing support of the local expat and student communities, including Erasmus Student Network (ESN) and the local film school Filmosofia.

We also have the legendary experienced Producer Edmon Roch (L'Auberge Espagnole, Perfume, El Nino, Barcelona and Last Days of Disco) as Service producer and currently in talks with leading UK Casting Director Jeremy Zimmerman (Hellboy, Plastic, Robin Hood) and Hubbart Casting (Lord of the Rings, Bourne Trilogy), who also love the script.

If you can’t contribute, you can back us by spreading the word, sharing our campaign through Facebook, Twitter and good old Word-of-Mouth.

Thank you so much for your support!
