Why is this Campaign Important?
- No one else in the world offers 2-10 day segments of a true ancient voyaging experience
- Supporting this campaign enables something that has never been done before!
- Outside of voyaging societies, there is nowhere to experience this type of travel
- Your donation will help us do two things at once, shortening our time to opening the village. It will also show our large investors that we have some social media support! ;)
Tribal Campaign Details
Use of Funds - Background
Our base campaign goal is xxxxxxUSD, to be used for the research, design, materials and testing of specific elements of our first traditional voyaging canoe or "Vaka Moana". These are areas of the design which will take a greater amount of time to complete and therefore it is important that we begin them now.
As we have mentioned, the overall design of this canoe (and particularly the hulls), is based on a Lapita/Tikopian design that is still in use today. It has been further developed and documented by Wharram Designs, and over the last 8 years, several of these vessels have been built, including two that were given to the people of Tikopia and its neighbor island, Anuta.
Our campaign donations will be used specifically for the two areas of the vessel that are the most important, and where there is commonly the greatest potential for error, or mismatch between design and intended use. They are: vessel steering and vessel propulsion.
Use of Funds
Based on our research and vendors quotes, the following is our general use of funds list for this campaign. Every effort will be made to improve value where possible. Some perks are being donated, others are at our cost.
Vessel Steering
Steering Rig Design Verification & Drawings
1/2 Scale Steering Rig Mock-up
1/2 Scale Steering Paddle
Vessel Propulsion
Sail Rig Design Consultation
1/2 Scale Prototype Cloth Sail
Support Items
Hobie 18 Hulls (for test bed)
Perks for campaign, at our cost
Indiegogo Fee (at our base goal)
Credit Card Fees (estimate)
Note: any additional donations beyond our base goal will be used for the construction materials of the vaka hulls and platform (marine plywood, bamboo poles, ironwood cross-members and marine epoxy). Conversely, if we do not meet our base goal, all funds will go first to design elements and then towords prototyping as detailed above.
Our Tribal Perks
All of the perks in our campaign are hand-made by artists from Florida, California, Hawai'i, Panama and Fiji. We beleive in suporting individual artists vs. companies that may make in bulk or worse, import from China.

The clothing is all hand-made from material that is hand-blocked by artists and then brought to a small clothing manufacturer. This work is all managed by our Tribal gal, Courtz, the newest member of the Tribe! These clothes will be among the first pre-production runs for Claudia's own "del Mar" label.
Your Donations
Every donation, no matter how large or small is important. The whole concept behind crowdfunding is the ability to meet a campaign goal through many small donations, so please don't think that your $10 might not help... it matters to the tribe!
For friends in the USA, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Germany and France... please use PayPal if you can. It's safer for you and cheaper for us! The credit card companies charge 3%, which IndieGoGo passes along to us. But Paypal charges us much less directly. So please use PayPal, if you can.
Your Impact
Every donor will have a positive impact is three ways:
1) You will be helping to recreate a wind powered method of transportation that is all but lost today.
2) You will be helping to establish a sustainable eco-village, not just for travelers, but also artists who will trade their "creative time" for time at the village, becoming part of the experience of Tribal Cebaco.
3) You will be contributing to part of a 100% eco-friendly business. Tribal Adventure will generate all its power from the wind and the sun. Even our vessels that are not sailing canoes will run using electric motors with batteries charged by the sun.
