Summary
My name is Pete. I live in Guam. Our neighbors to the south, Ulithi and Fais (outer islands of Yap State, FSM), got schwacked this week by Super-Typhoon Maysak. By the time the typhoon reached this tiny atoll in the middle of the Pacific the sustained winds were 160mph. It ripped apart buildings and ruined crops. I'm going to sail down to Ulithi and take a bunch of tarps and roofing nails and hammers to try to help start putting things back together. I don't have a job right now so I have time to help out. I'm hoping you will pitch in some cash to help me buy as many tarps and tools as I can stuff in the boat. Thanks.
What We Need & What You Get
I'm hoping to get as much money as we can in a few days and take as much stuff as we can get. If you send money it will be spent directly on supplies for the recovery. If we don't reach our goal, we will spend what we've got and go with that. Here are the things that people need right now:
- Food
- Water
- Clothes
- Footwear
- First Aid Kits
- Personal Hygiene products
- Building Tools and Supplies
- Sunglasses
- Hats
- Chainsaws and Blades
- Mosquito Repellent
- Tarps/Tents
- Water Filters
- Batteries
- Flashlights/Lanterns
- Plumbing fitting
- Stomach flu/Diarrhea Medicine
- Fiberglass mat/resin and hardner
- hand tools
The Impact
I can take a lot of diarrhea medicine and tarps and flashlights and hammers on my small boat. There are people on the island right now waiting to use the few tools they have. If we can take some tools down, they will be able to utilize the manpower they already have available and speed up the long recovery process. People are in need of help and I am in a position to help them. I hope you see that you are in a position to help them too and decide to donate.
You'll be able to follow the expedition on my website: www.pyrate-enterprises.com
Risks & Challenges
There is risk involved with sailing on the open ocean but this is the best time of year to make this voyage and I have gone this way before. I am confident in my abilities and the sea worthiness of my boat Absolute to make the voyage with no problem.
Other Ways You Can Help
Whether or not you can help out with money, please send some positive energy out into the universe on behalf of the people of Ulithi and Fais as well as Yap and Chuuk
If you are on Guam and want to donate stuff instead of money we need hand tools like hammers and machettes and tin snips. I can take some clothes and stuff too but if you have stuff in the next couple days, take it to the Julale Center to load it in the container until 8 April. I only have so much room on the boat.
Please send this to other people so maybe they can help out too.
Thanks!!
Pete
