In Mexico, a Healer Who Asks for Nothing in Return
Hi. My name is Bruce Borden of Tucson, Arizona. While traveling throughout Mexico in 2008 Patricia Ferrer (pictured above with Sergio) and I happened upon Sergio Castro
Martinez in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas and we have been staunch supporters
ever since. He is 74 years young and has been waging a
one-man, humanitarian effort in this remote, highland area for more than 45 years. Sergio treats the burns and wounds of the poor and under-served around San Cristobal. These treatments are much needed in this area. He sees around 20 patients each day. He does not charge his patients.
Ever since meeting Sergio, Patricia, who is a dermatology PA, has traveled back to
San Cristobal twice yearly bringing medical supplies and helping him as much as possible. Every time she returns, she is in as much awe as she
was when she first met him. Patricia and I are
better humans for knowing this humble and selfless man.
We would like to attract like-minded people to Don Sergio's cause. We support his efforts with monetary contributions and hope to convince you that Sergio is worthy of a charitable contribution from you as well. Sergio has minimal needs and all of the funds raised here will go 100% to Sergio and his patients. All of my charitable contributions go to Sergio because I know they are used efficiently and wisely. I feel good every time I give money to help Sergio.
Your contributions can help Don Sergio's efforts immensely. He lives a very simple and frugal life with his wife, Elsa, and spends most of his time treating the under-served who live in the surrounding villages. The pictures in the Gallery tell the story visually.
The following link takes you to the 2013 New York Times article about Sergio. Patricia is in the video. It tells Sergio's story much better than I ever could.
