Lapa is an innovative device that finds anything you
don’t want to lose by attaching a Lapa to it and finding it with the Lapa App
for Android and iOS.
![]()
But Lapa is
also a lost & found social network inside a shell, that scans and
remembers your Lapa’s location permanently,
and if it gets lost, has the ability to alert anyone that passes by it to pick it up and give it back to you.
It’s that simple. You’ve never seen anything like this before.

Follow Lapa’s signal strength to
guide you in the right direction and hear the beep to know its
precise location. Perfect for finding your keys, your remote control and your
purse.

Relax knowing that your kids, passports,
backpacks and anything important that you don’t want to lose sight of is
secured with ‘Safety Mode’, since you'll get automatically alerted when your
Lapa leaves your side.

Track Lapa
on the Map and visualize your pet's or luggage's GPS location on the spot. You
will use this feature to know the exact location of where your Lapa was last
seen: whether at the office, at home or anywhere else in the world.
![]()
![]()
Even if your Lapa falls out of your 100-150 feet
range, its location will be instantly updated when another Lapa user passes by
it, with aid of Lapa’s ‘Community Track’. This feature will passively run in the background of the
whole Lapa network to increase your reach, by making other Lapa Apps search for your lost item without their users ever knowing about it.

Share access to your Lapas. Great for different Lapa users that wish to control or find the same Lapa (like your pet, your bicycle or even a car).
If you decide you need external help, reach out to specific Facebook friends or e-mail contacts in one click. This private message will allow them to instantly download the App and access your Lapa so they can find it for you.

How many times have
you lost something knowing it was almost impossible for someone to return it to you? 'Go Public' is your boost. Report your Lapa
as lost and ask the whole Lapa community for help, making your Lapa’s profile visible to any Lapa user that passes by it. When they pass by and find your item, they will be prompted to contact you and safely return it.

Lapa is the Portuguese name for a special type of
shell that attaches itself to rocks or whatever it can find on the beach, just
like our Lapa clings to your stuff. The only difference is, you won’t have to
wade through the ocean searching for our Lapa, it’ll tell you where to look!
Lapa invites you to step into the
future by joining the Lapa community. Together, we’re creating a more
collaborative society that enables all of us to help and
be helped in search of lost items, making sure that we will never
lose anything again.

The Lapa project
started in November 2012 by a group of 4 friends with expertise in the 4 main
areas of Lapa’s conception: the hardware developer João Lobato Oliveira (PhD in
computer science), the software developer Luis Certo (PhD in computer science),
the graphic designer Cassandra Carvas (MSc in Architecture), and the product
designer Miguel Gomes (MSc in Architecture). We have a partnership with a trusted manufacturing company, which is supporting the development, production
and certification of our Lapa devices. A team of talented marketeers and video
and music producers are responsible for bringing Lapa to the people. Now we
need your help to bring Lapa to life.

Over almost a year, we’ve been
working hard to build a functional prototype of Lapa devices along with the
Lapa App for iOS and Android, and to define a supply chain of trustful
companies for assembling and certifying our Hardware (Lapa devices are already
certified to FCC, CE, and TELEC).
Now we need your help to fulfill
our dream and kickstart Lapa’s mass production. Your funding will be used to produce
the mold, certify our Hardware worldwide, and establish distribution, marketing
and sales channels in order to successfully reach the worldwide market.
Please help us bring Lapa to life!

Production issues may arise that
can either enhance and/or delay Lapa’s production and certification:
Design & Size:
Lapa's design for the final molds is being finalized and may be subject to small changes to optimize the quality of Lapa's signaling sound. These changes will be minor and won't compromise Lapa's beautiful design.
Mass Production Delays:
Lapa’s mass production can suffer
from delays due to long lead-times from different manufacturers to produce our
Hardware’s electronic components. We’ve minimized this risk by using reliable
components and manufacturers, giving us flexibility and options in our supply
chain.
Certification Delays:
Although our Hardware is already
certified in US, EU and Japan, to certify it worldwide we have to submit it to
different test houses that may get delayed to approve it in some countries.
We will keep our backers informed
throughout the entire production and delivery process. Thank you so much for
your support!

1.
How many Lapas can I control with the Lapa App?
You can control unlimited
Lapas with your Lapa App. This includes your Lapas, the Lapas that your friends
share with you, and public Lapas that you accept to help find.
2.
How long does Lapa's battery last?
Lapa will last up to 8 months running on a single battery, and can be easily replaced.
3.
What kind of replaceable battery does Lapa use?
Lapa uses the most common
CR2016 watch battery. You can find it in any convenience store.
4.
Can I access/control my Lapas from different smartphones?
Yes. Access you Lapas from any
smartphone with Bluetooth 4.0 or later using your Facebook or Lapa login.
5. Will tracking other user's Lapas consume more
battery from my phone?
We
have put a lot of effort into creating an intelligent algorithm that will
minimize the battery consumption of your smartphone while running the
'Community Track' in the background. You can also turn off the 'Community Track'
from the Lapa App anytime you want.
6.
Can other Lapa users track and scan my Lapas?
Never. Unless you explicitly
decide to share access to you Lapas, or publicly report them as lost, only you
can see where they are.
7.
If I share access to my Lapas through Facebook will it be public to all?
No. When you share a Lapa via
Facebook you explicitly choose with whom you want to share it with. If the
friends you want to share access to your Lapas with already have the Lapa App
installed on their phone, they'll receive an invitation directly on their App.
If they didn't download the App, they'll receive a private message on Facebook
inviting them to download it and find your Lapa for you.
8.
What happens when I share access to my Lapa via Facebook or e-mail with someone
that still doesn't have the Lapa App?
You can share access to your Lapas
with someone that still doesn't have the App by sending a private message via
Facebook or e-mail with an invitation to download the App, and a PIN code that
enables your friend to manually add and control your Lapa from his phone.
9.
If I publicly report a Lapa as lost can anyone within the Lapa network see it,
access it and find it for me?
Yes. The 'Go Public' feature is
exactly for when you choose to request the help of the whole community to find
your Lapas for you. This means that any Lapa user that passes by the Lapa you
publicly reported as lost, will be instantly invited to access it, find it, and
return it to you by contacting you through Facebook, Email or through the Lapa App.
10.
If I accept an invitation to find a public Lapa will my information be shared?
When you accept to access a public
Lapa, you are proactively willing to find and return the lost Lapa to its
owner, so it's important that both of your contact information (Facebook,
e-mail or username) is available so you can communicate with each other. If you
don't want to share your contact information, simply decline public invitations
to find other Lapas when you pass by them.
