What's this all about?

Thanks for dropping by our Indiegogo campaign. We're the P.I.D. the movie team and this is our campaign to raise funds for production and equipment costs for our short film P.I.D.

We are a group of Canadian artists. Headed up by actors/writers Emily and Sergio, we've brought together a stellar cast of ACTRA actors, and are directed by the passionate and creative Brian J Graham. Our team also includes award-winning Director of Photography John Tran, and equally heralded Editor Andy Ames of the Toronto creative studio Panic & Bob.

P.I.D. the movie began with a creative spark from Sergio last year about a troubling and escalating disorder in our society - progressive intimacy disorder, or P.I.D. Having written the initial draft Emily and Sergio proceeded to workshop his musings into a short film script that explores this disorder in a very Canadian way; a couple of scoops of stark reality and dark humour sprinkled with the outright absurd for some laugh-out-loud levity. Joined by the cast early on in the creative process, after several read-throughs, countless rewrites, and thoughtful pre-production planning, P.I.D. is now ready to move into production.

Want to know more about progressive intimacy disorder or why it's important to the P.I.D. team? Check out our snazzy website www.pidthemovie.com

You're short on time? Or just don't want to visit yet another website? Here's a brief synopsis:

P.I.D. is a short film that addresses the real-life, growing problem of Personal Intimacy Disorder. It is a humorous look at a troubling problem that is rapidly growing in our society, and yet remains a proscribed topic of conversation. In P.I.D. we meet Franki, a twenty-first century man who is connected to his community through technology, yet isolated from life and love.  After years of overindulgence in the instant gratification offered by pornography and technology, Franki now has a problem. As Franki struggles to build meaningful real life relationships, the temptation of his titillating and easily accessible fantasy world grapples for his attention.

Why do we need money and what are we able to do for you?

Here's the nitty-gritty. Our producers/writers have already thrown in a bunch of their own money. Even so, we need more money for the following:

  • We would like to turn this project from an ACTRA co-op into a TIP (Toronto Indie Production) and to do this we need to pay our team TIP rates, which are close to full ACTRA fees for work on a short film. Your contribution to this campaign would help us produce P.I.D. on a micro-budget financially recognizing the hard work of our cast and crew. That's over $10,000 right there for cast, crew, editor, hair/make-up and wardrobe people. Our producers are covering a large amount of it, and have paid for all of the pre-production and workshop costs - but $10,000 is still needed.
  • Another chunk goes to equipment, costumes, set and prop pieces, site rental, insurance, craft and transportation, which all comes to roughly $7,976.
  • And of course we can't forget ACTRA TIP and CMPA administration fees for creating a Canadian film, that's around $1000.
  • Lastly we have a micro-budget for branding, marketing, advertising and a first screening, which makes up for the remaining $3,000 and change.
  • If we don't raise enough to meet our goal of $21,976 we can't make P.I.D. If we can't make the movie, you get your money back! WHY? Because a lot of our incentives for your contribution rely on actually making the movie, and making it well. We don't want to take your contribution and then not produce the best possible short film because we fell short on our campaign goal, or not provide you with your perk…so, we're working hard to meet our fundraising goal.

                                     What do you get?

Amazing things! Just superb incentives really. Below is a selection of just some of the different perky perks you can choose from:
We'll have FDA approved P.I.D. branded condoms and t-shirts shipped out to you. (Yes, both will work as advertised.)                                                                                              Enjoy a one-on-one yoga class from one of our crazy talented cast who also happens to be a sought-after yoga instructor here in Toronto.                                         Or get together for a private coaching session with another cast member who is represented by one of Toronto's top-tier agencies - you know she knows her stuff with a top tier agent backing her.                                                                                                 You can have lunch or dinner with one of the inspired and (at that time) extremely happy writers and/or director (their treat of course.)                                                       Have a beautiful poster signed by the cast and crew and shipped to you.                   Be a VIP at the first screening in Toronto, or join the cast and crew for the exclusive and very secret post-screening bash (promising to be a party to remember!) Receive top-secret behind the scenes footage from the making of P.I.D.                   And, of course, digital or DVD copies of the film sent to you before anyone else has a chance to see our laugh-out-loud work of art.
Just take a peek on the right hand side of your screen for a full break-down of these perks.
In case you'd like to chat about a larger and more business partner orientated contribution, or want to contribute but don't want a perk in return, just contact Emily (the primary contact for the campaign) and she'll chat with you at your convenience.

                                     The Impact

Your contribution makes creating P.I.D. the movie possible. Allows Canadian artists to create their art. And most importantly introduces more people to the conversation surrounding progressive intimacy disorder. Did you have an opportunity to see the latest cover of Time Magazine? Heading: Porn, why young men who grew up with Internet porn are becoming advocates for turning it off (http://time.com/4277576/in-the-latest-issue-65/)

If you didn't read it you can bet a whole whack of other people didn't either - so why not help open the conversation up a little through film as well as in print?

                                           Risks

We have a stellar cast on board, an award-winning DOP and editor, an experienced director, and a thoroughly work-shopped script. We have the organizational minds of our producers, and a bunch of their money too. We have the time and the talent. Now we just need the last of our funding. Our biggest risk is not meeting our fundraising goal on Indiegogo, but with your help we can do it. So, if you can't contribute personally to our campaign, but would still like to help out, there are indeed Other Ways You Can Help!

Please spread the word about P.I.D. the movie!
