Overview
The Prison Story Project serves women incarcerated at a Fayetteville Correction Center in a storytelling/creative writing project. We have been reading Molly Brodak's book, "Bandit: A Daughter's Memoir" about her complicated relationship with her father, who robbed eleven banks when Molly was thirteen years old. She recounts her childhood and attempts to make sense of her complicated relationship with her father, a man she only half knew.

We would like to bring Molly Brodak to Fayetteville to visit with the women at the Northwest Arkansas Community Correction Center and share her story both inside and outside the correction center.

Brodak is an accomplished poet, nonfiction writer, and professor who grew up with a father who spent her childhood in and out of her life, an experience to which many of the women we serve relate, both as parents in prison and, in so many cases, growing up as children of incarcerated parents.

We plan to have Brodak visit the women at the correction center and give readings of her work both in the prison and outside in the community.

We are seeking sponsors to help us bring Brodak to Fayetteville in December. Our budget goal of $1,000, which will include travel, lodging, a per diem, and a small honorarium, can be met by a small handful of folks as inspired as we are by the power of art and literacy facing recidivism in the prison systems.
