The Story of Some Saturdays
I am an actor/writer/producer from the beautiful island of Newfoundland. It has been my wish for many years to shoot a film in my sweet, little hometown of St. Bernard's, a picturesque inlet of about 300 people. Some Saturdays is that film! I wanted to portray an intimate moment between a couple in this quaint town while capturing the magnitude of its beauty and the ominous quality of its isolation. The oddness of being surrounded by so much warmth paired with a desperate need to escape.
To capture the tone, I set my film on a boat. This, in a nutshell, makes for more expensive filming but it is also imperative to the film. I have gathered an incredible team and this campaign will allow me to get the equipment and crew needed to capture the essence and mood that the production requires. I want the characters to feel, I want YOU to feel, that they cannot get away; that a darkness exists that they cannot escape. It permeates the salt air and it isn't going anywhere.
Your contribution will make this dream become a reality! Let's tell the story together!
What We Need
So, what's the money needed for? In order to film in the most beautiful way possible, we require an Arri Mini camera which rents for $1200/day. The shoot is planned for three days in late August, so the camera takes up quite a bit of the budget. There will be other equipment required as well, such as sound and, oh yeah, BOATS! And people need to be paid for their hard work. I need to feed them! I am already extremely touched by the generosity of people who've helped out with the project, my family and the people of St. Bernard's. We applied for a BravoFact grant in the spring. Ten projects receive grants from thousands of applications across the country and we weren't one of them. As a first time filmmaker, this wasn't surprising. I have received an initial financial boost from individuals Linda and Larry McGean, Adrian Manswell, Dmitry Chepovetsky, Sandy McIntyre and Cate Hearn. Thank you!! And, David Picco, thank you for your beautiful song.
Immense thanks to my creative team- director Steve Cochrane (Lost Girl (Shaw), Somewhere Between (ABC), We Were Wolves) producer Ruth Lawrence (Hunting Pignut, Snowstorm Roulette, Talus & Scree) cinematographer Wes Legge (Letterkenny, Eating Buccaneers) and lead actor Shawn Doyle (House of Cards, Big Love). Your vision and reverence for my film is glorious and stunning. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
And to all of you who donate and support my film, I will be forever grateful. I appreciate any amount you can give. It means so much to me.
