The Bad Hats
- We are an independent folk rock band based in Nashville, Tennessee
- Our campaign is to support us in our release of our upcoming 6 song EP - THIS TIME ITS DIFFERENT. Raising this money will help us further our careers in the music industry as well as letting us invest more time back into communities (working with non-profits, playing community events, organizing fundraisers, etc.)
- A percentage of the money we receive, regardless of the goal, will be donated to a local non-profit Room In The Inn; who's purpose is to help those without homes get work and develop skills that will help them get back on their feet.
Who Are We?
The Bad Hats are an American, contemporary folk rock band based in Nashville, TN that plans on redefining the folk genre for their generation. Having started the band in Evansville, IN in 2017, Benny Jenkins (lead vocals, guitar) and Grayson Gerni (vocals, guitar) began playing soulful music focused on self-exploration and improvement. Now, the four-piece band, which includes Jack Gardner (drums/percussion) and Rocky Carnell (vocals, guitar, mandolin), aims to “make more people less lonely” through each and every release. The band has a quickly growing following as they continue to develop their unique sound, and according to 95.7 The Spin, The Bad Hats “are down to earth, yet their music still cuts through to really be something that makes you stand still.”
The Campaign
- So, Why are we doing this?
$10,000 is a lot of money, so, we have a LOT of plans. Here they are!
-
This Time, It's Different is our first professionally produced EP! We have been (not so silently) working on this for a long time and have put our absolute all into it so far. We want to innovate and share our experiences in the best way we possibly can. With some very special studio musicians, our incredible producer, and an excellent studio space, we are geared up for the highest quality release we've had yet!
-
Tour! We will be supporting the release of our EP with a tour in Spring! The details are behind closed doors for now but this will be our biggest tour to date. With two national tours under our hats (see what I did there?), we have learned the skills necessary to bring you folks the highest production show we possibly can. Traveling is not without expense. Paying for our travel, food, show promotion, and finding somewhere to lay our heads every night is always a challenge. We need you to help us get from one city to the next!
-
NEW Merch! Everybody loves a good t-shirt and CD, but we want to branch out and do more. We are currently designing hats, hoodies, coffee mugs, posters, vinyl and even more to bring our fans more quirky Bad Hats gear. Keeping up with orders has been very challenging and with this new release, we have the ability to work with larger companies to bring you more of what you want, right when you want it!
-
Community. This one is important. Our mission statement is "To make more people less lonely," and we are taking it seriously. Working with Room In The Inn has been fantastic so far, and we are beyond proud to be a part of anything that they do. Financially, working with non-profits is very difficult, as they are limited in available funds for entertainment. With your support, we can spend more time volunteering our time and services to bring people together like never before!

Room In The Inn
Melanie Barnett (Community Development Director) - "Through the power of spirituality and the practice of love, Room In The Inn provides hospitality with a respect that offers hope in a community of non-violence. For 34 years, Room In The Inn's mission has been to provide programs that emphasize human development and recovery through education, self-help, and work, centered in community and long term support for those who call the streets of Nashville home. Additionally, through Room In The Inn's winter shelter program, thousands of Middle Tennesseans come together to serve their homeless neighbors by providing emergency winter shelter in partnership with nearly 200 area congregations."
After having a full tour of the campus, we volunteered to come play music at Room In The Inn for their morning cafe one Tuesday morning and instantly fell in love with what they were doing. We chose Room In The Inn because we wholeheartedly believe that they are making a difference in our community and that they will continue to do so. We will be donating 5% of the contributions of this campaign to Room In The Inn.
Final Notes
We owe so much to everyone who has supported us on our journey so far and we cannot thank all of you enough. The four of us are fighting so hard to bring everything we have to the table this year and we wish we could share all of our plans, but time will tell. We need your help more than ever now and hope that you will continue to believe in us as we climb this mountain.
We Love You All.
Musically,
