Now, I'm gonna talk about backstory for awhile, so I won't be offended if you decide to just donate, share, and get back to scrollin.
Over the years we have built and/or run a variety of underground venues including the Church House Sessions, El Dorado Studios, Circle Church, and our current endeavor, the Wafflarium, where we have hosted over 100 musical events in the last 6 months.
This is what we do. It's what we've always done. Transform spaces into community performance venues and populate them with like minded weirdos.
We are raising funds to cover expenses for our upcoming singer songwriter showcase series, featuring 30 local artists. We will be having Aquanaut Audio film the whole thing in 4k, and get professional quality recordings. We will also be having 24.hours getting behind the scenes footage, and Colton Bills taking professional photographs.
Each performer will end up with 4k footage, hi def audio, Professional photographs, and behind the scenes footage. Basically an entire press kit. This whole project has blown up way beyond our budget, and we need your help in order to support and promote these musicians.
This will be our final shabang at the wafflarium, and we want to properly document our transition from our space at the Metro Center to our new location, a magical mysterious space known only as the vessel. More details coming soon.
Santa Cruz has always had a mycilium network of underground music scenes, and Mikey and Pablo have perfected the art of foraging the real ones. We've always done this as a hobby, but somewhere along the way we became rather good at it.
There is a massive gap in Santa Cruz, and that is a community musician space. For the last 6 months we have been hosting just such a space at the metro center directly across from Streetlight records. The drums are always set up, theres amps and guitars and a bass for anyone to come in and utilize, and there has been a constant flow of interested individuals and bands wanting to either jam or play a show here. The need is clear. And here, we have had the chance to pair it with the Philly shop as a way to monetize the project, so the musical aspect has been unhindered by the complications of capitalism.
The singer songwriter showcase will cost us around $2500 all together, which is far out of our budget, so we are hoping to offset the expenses with this fundraiser.
This project is central to our lives, because we have dedicated ourselves to giving artists and musicians the resources and platform to develop and create their projects. This singer songwriter showcase specifically demonstrates just how much of an impact we hope to have.
These 24 musicians will end up with professional quality audio and footage of them preforming, which is a massive step up for struggling musicians. A session like this would cost an individual artist around $300, and instead we are giving them this opportunity free of charge. Because the world needs music, and musicians need community, and this creative community needs your support.
Santa Cruz is a complicated town, and navigating the various scenes and subsets is a strange and fascinating challenge, but somehow, between Mikey's English degree and Pablo's street smarts, we have managed to establish an epically diverse and full network of contacts and partnerships including most of the venues on Pacific, several city council members, the funk scene, the reggae scene, the punk scene, the jam band scene, the jazz heads, the loopers, the folk scene, and the college crowd.
Somehow, we've managed to leave everyone smiling, and our goal is to get everyone else in this town to grin, at least for a minute.
We know that not everyone can donate, but you can help us get the word out. With a little help we can go viral and maybe even start getting paid to do this stuff.
