Wheels for Cuba
A bike. A woman. Together for only three weeks. Cuba. Ethics of traveling. Tires will go flat. Maps will be lost.
I plan on taking a bike to Cuba and deliver it to a community there. I will cycle around what travel guides refer to as a "mysterious and vibrant Caribbean" country and I promise to leave a tiny footprint so the place doesn't change too much. The message I am hoping to to spread is that we should think about what we leave behind when we travel, about the resources we often use, sometimes abuse and rarely create, while travelling. I am going to document my experience (and take more photos than anyone would care to look at) and write a travel journal ready for publication.
It's about to get interesting because this is what I am: #woman #solotraveler #bikes #environment #sustainableliving #sociologist #EthicsOfTravelling #TravelJournalWriter #Entrepreneur #WillDoComedy #clumsy #165 #37. This is what I AM NOT: #athletic #wealthy #Spanishspeaking #GoodAtOrientation
The Bike is: #NewToCuba #2WheelsOfJoy #StayingHere #InGreatCondition - except that I don't have a bike that I can give Cuba and that's why this campaign is here.
I am looking for a donation of a bike and bike equipment (saddlebags, rear view mirror, inner tubes, repair tool) as well as $1550 funds needed to pay, for the most budget three week trip to Cuba: one way trip for Bike&I ($500), accommodation (approx $450), food (approx $400), health insurance (approx $150), internet (approx $50). If I meet my stretch goal of $2000 I will have for a flight back as well :-) Most of all I am looking for support for Bike&I so if you can't donate like us on Facebook, give us suggestions for a route, come ride with us for bit if you are there, share how you travel in a good way or share advice if you have been to Cuba.
