Hello!

Some of you may or may not know about the project 'ALEGNA'. Its been a long time coming but it's finally ready to go into production with your help.

- THE STORY -

'ALEGNA' follows, Adam, a British solider who is held captive by Iraqi freedom fighters. It explores his experience of being in captivity and the effects this has on him both mentally and physically. But this isn’t your typical war story; we’re not pointing fingers here at who is wrong and who is right, merely just showing you the effects of war and the duality of man to destroy himself.

DIRECTORS VISION - I want to create a narrative that draws you in through strong images and story telling. Shooting on Super16 film is a big part of that vision, I really want to immerse you in the gritty and intense world of Adam. And I believe that the texture of Super16 will lend itself towards creating this world.

Throughout development I've really been drawn towards simple lighting. Having worked for the cinematographer Greig Fraser and seen the way he lights using simple yet beautiful set ups, it reinforces for me the notion that simple is better. Allowing for faces to fall into darkness, creating silhouettes and shaping focus with shadow, go towards to making a better film.

Adding to this we’re shooting "ALEGNA" in a handheld/Cinema Verite style because I believe it will reinforce a realism and bring you the audience into the world of Adam, I want to make you feel like you’re there with him, watching him and experiencing as he does.

SHOOTING ON SUPER16 (FILM)
We're going to be shooting "ALEGNA" on film #filmisnotdead, Super16 to be precise. Film may seem like this mysterious format that is only used in Hollywood but with out BTS documentary we want to show you the process of what it's like to shoot on film and how great and easy it is. Just a note: Fraser's last two short films were shot on Super16.
