It seems like every year, we hear heartbreaking news reports of children who have passed away after being forgotten behind inside locked vehicles. Sometimes even the most well meaning of parents get caught up in the hectic lifestyle of today's world, which can bear gruesome consequences.

In the past two decades, there have been over 65,000 cases of children suffering vehicular heat stroke or asphyxiation, many of those cases ( 659 ) resulting in death.

" A child’s body temperature rises 3‐5 times faster than an adult’s. Even with the windows partially down, the temperature inside a parked car can reach 125 degrees in just minutes. Leaving the windows opened slightly does not significantly slow the heating process or decrease the maximum temperature attained.

There are several factors that contribute to children being inadvertently forgotten by care givers. Paramount is the fact that our brains are not keeping up with the demands of our busy lives. The most common factors include a change in one’s normal routine, lack of sleep, stress, fatigue, distractions and hormone changes. When these factors combine, the ability for the brain to multi‐task is diminished.

As parents know, life with newborns and small children is full of stress, sleep deprivation and distractions. And young children, especially babies, often fall asleep in their car seats; becoming quiet, unobtrusive little passengers. And sadly, for babies with rear‐facing seats, the seat looks the same from the front seat – whether occupied or not.

Vehicular heat stroke is largely misunderstood by the general public. The majority of parents would like to believe that they could never “forget” their child in a vehicle. The most dangerous mistake a parent or caregiver can make is to think it cannot happen to them or their family. "

In today's technological age, cars come equipped with touch screen interfaces, on-board computers, and even direct cell phone connections, yet seemingly nothing that can alert a parent of a forgotten child, much less help remedy the situation.

South Florida resident Dennis Aneiros decided to help put an end to this. After 4 years of designing and producing a rough working version, he devised a fully working prototype. This prototype was granted a full U.S. Patent, and later received letters of recommendation from U.S. House Of Congress Member Mario Diaz-Balart, as well as an encouraging letter of support directly from the White House.

To date, he has been granted 2 full patents, with a third patent pending. Dennis has also received personal letters of recommendation and support from both the U.S. House Of Congress, as well as the White House for his innovative safety designs. 

Dennis is the Founder of ANEIROS LLC, an innovative design firm dedicated to creating original, safety enhancing devices for automotive and general use.
