A Garden For All Of Us
Jack & Jake's has partnered with the New Orleans Food and Farm Network and community urban growers to develop the surrounding new Public Market property with edible landscaping and a greenhouse to produce fresh healthy foods. Edible community gardens and greenhouse space will support educational opportunities, training, and a local food source available to schools, hospitals, and other important community organizations. In addition to greenhouse vegetables, the greenhouse will also support commercial fish holding facilities that will make whole live fish available at the market.
We need your help to make the urban edible landscape a reality for New Orleans. Please help us build the gardens and greenhouse space to produce fresh healthy local foods on the grounds of the new market.
About Us
Jack & Jake’s, Inc. is a mission focused for profit company established in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2010. We are a social and environmental impact local food endeavor that represents the first regional food hub in Louisiana capable of connecting local producers with those who need access to fresh healthy foods most. Our mission is to provide high quality, safe and affordable local fresh and prepared foods to the New Orleans community.
Jack & Jake’s has created a Public Market in the historic former Myrtle Banks School building at 1307 Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard. The facility is located on a 65,000 square foot site in Central City and is within three blocks of St Charles Avenue and the Central Business District. Jack & Jake’s has designed the space as a unique food market and community center that builds upon New Orleans’ historic tradition of public markets. The market introduces affordable fresh foods to the surrounding neighborhoods and visitors to the city seeking a truly local culinary experience
The Impact This Can Have On Central City
Central City is a neighborhood rich in culture and history, yet it lacks access to affordable and fresh food. Building our Greenhouse and Edible Landscape will be a key step in creating a unique destination for residents to learn about and actually help grow their own food.
Jack & Jake’s already delivers fresh, local produce to area schools- help us provide the same services and products to Central City.
Jack & Jake’s Public Market will create approximately 80 full and part-time jobs and provide a boost to the local economy- our vision of creating a Teaching Greenhouse is integral to it’s success.
The Edible Landscape and Greenhouse will be an ideal setting for Central City residents to enjoy a beautiful outdoor space that they can feel proud of.
