Our area was very hard hit during Hurricane Irene a few years back.  This was one of the main reasons we at the Maetreum of Cybele applied for and got a license for a low power (100 watt) FM community radio station.  We raised the money ourselves for all the needed equipment and got on the air last July and our station is quite popular.  However, we lack good backup power to stay on the air in an emergency situation which is exactly where community radio stations are the greatest service to their listeners.

We have a small portable generator but what is really needed is a decent auto switch generator that comes on when the power is out.  Our area ducked out being hard hit by Super Storm Sandy but that luck will not hold forever and we need to be prepared for the next large scale power outage in our area.  Small community radio stations like WLPP-LP are the lifeblood of a community in an emergency situation as most commercial radio stations are not local focused and we are.

You can help us be ready to serve our rural upstate community in the event of an emergency by helping us raise the money needed to get a decent emergency generator which would also power our well to provide water for our neighbours since everyone in our Hamlet uses well water.  We know from first hand experience how much the communication and centre is needed in a local emergency.  Can you help?
