Who are we?
My name is Katherine and I own and operate the circus academy of Tucson. Everyday I work to keep our space and program going to provide circus education and a community space to our city. Our program is more than just circus, we want to be part of our student's over all educational life in becoming prepared adults and responsible community members. This includes offering community service opportunities and lessons on setting and completing goals, working as part of a team and exploring the self to develop awareness and progress as human beings. Everyday, our students lives are impacted by our programming.
Our goal is to offer circus to ALL in the community who wish to participate regardless of age, body type, socio economic status, race, religion, culture, physical or developmental challenges, gender identity, or any other perceived barrier to participation. We believe that everyone should have the chance to experience the benefits of circus and that everyone can benefit from circus arts. This year we managed to share circus with 15 kids who wouldn't have otherwise been able to participate in this kind of programming and in 2017 we hope to double that.
Why we are fundraising:
In 2016, our first year, we broke even. I am really proud of this as a small business owner. That said, looking at our spring semester, we are predicting a $3000.00 short fall in basic operations expenses. We also need to replace some key supplies such as fabrics with holes. There is building maintenance that needs to be done, including a termite treatment. These are all things that we have to do to keep going. If we exceed our goal, we will even be able to buy a new crash pad!
The Impact

Risks & Challenges
The challenge to running any business and any youth organization is always money! I have managed to run this by myself and save make it possible to do with little funding just by doing everything myself and working many, many, many hours each week. I know that I can overcome all challenges that arise because of my hard work and dedication and also because of the support of my community. I am eternally grateful to each and every student and family and couldn't do this without the community around me!
