SanCloud is enhancing the open source hardware BeagleBone Black design you love with more features than you thought possible! It still has a blistering 1GHz processor and just like the BeagleBone Black, has two 46-pin expansion headers, micro HDMI for audio/video output, USB ports, Ethernet and other I/O features. The
SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced is an ultra-powered embedded computer that can (still) fit in a mint tin!
-
1 Gigabyte DDR3 RAM - twice the amount of the normal BeagleBone Black
-
Gigabit Ethernet
-
Extra USB ports, 2 on board plus 2 via expansion header
-
Optional serial NOR flash for boot loader
-
Optional 6 axis gyro + accelerometer (we will fit 9 axis '+ compass' if target is reached)
-
Optional barometer pressure and temperature sensor

Since early 2015 we have been working on the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board. We have listened to user feedback of what people would like to see on an Enhanced BeagleBone and combined this user wish list with our own requirements and produced the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced platform. We have produced several prototype versions and this has allowed us to iron out hardware and software issues and to fully test the new SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board. As a result, we now have fully functional hardware and software drivers for all the new features and are ready to go.
The SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board is fully supported and licensed by beagleboard.org. This means the same software images from BeagleBone that work on the Black will also work on the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board. It also ensures you can expect the same high quality as you have come to expect from BeagleBone.

What we need now is your support to bring the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced to the market. Your support will allow us to start mass production of the board and deliver to you, our Backers.

Our hardware is designed to be flexible and this has allowed us to offer several versions:
SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced Light
This board offers the same AM3358 1GHz processor from Texas Instruments and like the BeagleBone Black, two 46-pin expansion headers, micro HDMI for audio/video output, 4GByte eMMC flash, micro SD storage card, USB host/device via mini-USB OTG socket. It is fully compatible with BeagleBone Black capes and supported via BeagleBone software releases. This version additionally provides 1GByte of DDR3 800 RAM, ultra fast gigabit Ethernet networking, two on-board USB2.0 type A ports and two further ports via expansion header with the same compact form factor as the older BeagleBone Black.

Also provided are 1MByte SPI NOR flash for protected, separate boot loader and room for kernel, additional on board sensors in the form of ST Microelectronics LP331 260-1260mbar Barometer pressure sensor and InvenSense MPU-6050 Six-Axis (Gyro + Accelerometer) and we will fit MPU-9250 Nine-Axis (Gyro + Accelerometer + Compass) if target is reached. As with the "Light" version it has the same compact form factor as the older BeagleBone Black.

SanCloud is the only company to offer a fully compatible BeagleBone Black board with many of the additional features requested by you, the fans and users of the BeagleBone Black. As with the current BeagleBone boards the hardware will be fully open sourced with all the design data being released at the same time as when we deliver to Backers.
The extra features of the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board allows for faster networking with gigabit Ethernet and larger applications due to the extra system RAM. Additional USB ports remove the need for external HUB. The twin USB ports also allow for the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board to be used as a single board PC for keyboard and mouse, while the micro HDMI port allows for connection to monitor or TV and internet connection via the RJ45 or the SanCloud WiFi + Bluetooth board.
On the fully featured SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board the 6 axis gyro + accelerometer ( 9 axis '+ compass' if target is reached) is perfect for robots or autonomous vehicle use. When combined with the barometer, the Enhanced board can be used for quad-copters. The extra sensors are also perfect for educational use.
We also added SPI NOR flash along side the current eMMC flash. This was done so that the BeagleBone u-boot boot loader can be kept separate and secure from the system flash. If the user accidentally erases the eMMC there is no problem as the board can still boot u-boot and there is even enough for the kernel to be stored leaving all the eMMC for root file system.
On all versions two USB ports are provided on a header next to the cape expansion ports. This can be used with the SanCloud WiFi + Bluetooth plug in board, or for your own projects and even combined with the current cape system for even greater flexibility.
On top of all this the
SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced is still 100% backwards compatible with BeagleBone Black capes and it will work with all future BeagleBone Black Debian software releases, fully supported by
beagleboard.org
Our funding target will allow us to fully certify the SanCloud Enhanced board. This will include ![]()
and
compliance. The advantage of completing this testing gives greater flexibility and confidence for yourselves of high quality reliable hardware.
If we don't hit our full funding target, the funding you our Backers have given us will still allow us to ship fully functional boards. Depending on how close we get to our goal we may still be able to complete
and
testing or we will ship boards with the same disclaimer as the standard BeagleBone Black.

The building of our current fully functional boards has given us the chance to test and debug the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced hardware. However as with all projects there are some risks.
We want to ship the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board fully
and
tested. This gives you our Backers greater flexibility on what the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board can be used for. While SanCloud has experience with the effort required with getting
and
approval, this does carry some level of risk. We have already started the testing with the current hardware. This means when we come to test the pre-production version we will have a high level of confidence in passing first time.

The reason for building the early prototype hardware was to prove the new design and complete the software changes for the gigabit networking and extra sensors on the fully featured SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board. This also means less work to do to get our Backers the platform. Most of the testing has already been done, we need your help to get the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board into people's hands.

Q - If you don't hit your funding goal will I still my hardware?
A - Yes, we will build and ship boards for each Backer that has ordered them
Q - If you don't hit your funding goal will the hardware still be
and
approved?
A - Maybe, depending on how close we get to our target we may still be able to get
and
approval.
Q - Can I reuse my BeagleBone Black case for the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced board?
A - Sorry no, in order to fit all the SanCloud BeagleBone Enhanced features without making the board bigger we had to move the DC jack and make space for the extra USB port.
Q - Why blue and not black PCB?
A - The company colour for SanCloud is blue so we designed the PCB to match.
We are thankful for any type of support you can provide us. Please share this project using the Indiegogo share tools with friends, family and followers.
