WE CAN DO THIS!!!
Breast Cancer has touched nearly everyone's life in one way or another. Either directly, or through a mother, an aunt, a sister, a friend, or another loved one. Many of us have gone to doctor's appointments, treatments, or cared for a loved one during their treatment praying for a full recovery...
But what happens when a woman has a mastectomy and needs access to a bra shop to purchase breast prostheses and bras? If she lives north of the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood, Washington, the choices are limited or nonexistent and she will likely need to travel a significant distant for this service. More importantly, there is no bra shop north of the mall that can directly bill Medicare or Medicaid. Since the closure of Virginia's Feminine Boutique in May 2012, breast cancer survivors have had no option but to order these products online without the option of a proper fitting or travel elsewhere for this needed service. Citrine Health's new program, The Bra Shop, is determined to change that-- regardless of a woman's ability to pay!
The Bra Shop will contract with insurance companies, allowing women to access prostheses and bras without having to pay out-of-pocket. All post mastectomy women need some type of prosthesis and bra, even if they choose to have reconstructive surgery later. The average cost for a breast prosthesis is $230 and related bra is $60. Many women can’t afford the cost of these items and rely on insurance and/or Medicare or Medicaid. This service is crucial-- Finding the right breast prosthesis and proper fitting bra can be an important step for many breast cancer survivors to begin healing and feel whole again.
This campaign will help toward raising the $75,000 start up costs needed for The Bra Shop including inventory, hardware, computer software, personnel and training.
If The Bra Shop is not funded, breast cancer survivors will continue to drive great distances to purchase a basic item... At an already difficult point in their lives, many women will be stretched financially or incur debt to purchase a bra and prosthesis. Many will not be able to get one at all.
I hope you will consider donating to this much needed service for low-income breast cancer patients and all gifts are tax deductible as Citrine Health is a 501(c)3, non-profit agency. We can do this!!!
