THE GLOBAL PLASTIC CRISISPlastic waste has become
one of the most pressing environmental challenges of the 21st
Century. Globally, we produce over 300
million tons of plastic every year and recycle only 8%. This amount is expected to double within the next 10 years!
![]()
In the US alone, roughly 28
million tons of plastic is sent to landfills every year at the staggering cost
of over $1.5 billion dollars annually.
HOW MUCH IS 28 MILLION TONS?
![]()
Imagine
using all of the plastic waste we see polluting our oceans, parks,
roadways, and neighborhoods to rebuild our communities without long processing
times, labor-intensive overhead, or toxic output.
At ByFusion, we envision a future where communities can put their plastic waste to work immediately – building infrastructure, housing, and municipal projects. And now, we can.
WHAT IS BYFUSION?
ByFusion is a 100% modular technology platform
that converts all types of waste plastic into an alternative building material called
RePlast. Our eco-friendly process is a low emission and non-toxic way to “upcycle” plastic waste from our communities, coastlines, and landfills into a
readily-usable new product.
![]()
ByFusion has been designed
as a key component in
promoting community-based circular economies – fully supporting the ability to convert plastic waste generated
within a city into a building material that can be used locally for
construction, infrastructure, and development projects.
ByFusion is capable of processing plastic collected from our oceans and coastlines and diverting millions of tons of
plastic from landfills, saving taxpayers and municipal governments billions of dollars
in costs, and creating jobs through local and regional business development.
THE BYFUSION PROCESS
![]()
Most people are not aware there are actually 7 types of plastics. However, due to high processing costs, toxicity, safety concerns and potential contamination, only 3
types (1-3) are commonly processed. However, even the commonly processed plastic must first be sorted and cleaned and often must be sent to
processing centers far from its point of entry into the waste stream.
ByFusion has addressed
this challenge by designing a system that can process ALL types of plastic waste, individually or mixed and clean
or contaminated. Since our platform is
modular, it can be easily transported to where it’s needed the most, and can be
used as a temporary or permanent addition to local waste management processing.
REPLAST BLOCKS – A 100%
RECYCLED NEW BUILDING MATERIAL
We have configured our
pilot ByFusion technology to produce blocks with the size and dimensions of common concrete blocks that
are designed to suit a wide variety of infrastructure, development, and
construction projects.

RePlast is an inexpensive, fit-for-purpose
material that can be put to use fast using materials that are literally
being thrown away every day in every community on the planet.
RePlast can be used for a
wide variety of municipal projects including highway sound barriers, environmental
retaining walls, thermal
insulation for industrial and residential construction, and crash
barriers. We are continually exploring
new ways to use our products.
OUR STORY Our team came together because our world is drowning in plastic waste and we were (and still are!) passionately committed to finding a solution.
We kept hearing about organizations and volunteers investing thousands of hours to clean up the plastic on our beaches, parks, waterways and communities but started asking ourselves, "Where does it go?"
Sure, some of it gets recycled but most of it ends right back into our broken waste management systems and potentially back into the ocean.
We wanted to find a solution that
- Is easy to deploy and can be sent directly to plastic pollution hotspots
- Put all of the plastic waste to work – permanently
- Is cost effective to build and scale
- Produced a cost effective product that could be used by anyone
-
Maximized the efforts of those organizations and volunteers who are passionate about cleaning up our planet
- Created jobs
And so, ByFusion was born.
PUTTING BYFUSION INTO ACTION
![]()
We are partnering with innovative non-profits including our good friends at Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii to bring our technology directly to one of the most important and heavily impacted areas on the planet.
The first SCH-ByFusion joint project will focus on the plastic accumulating across all of the Hawaiian Islands, including the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument, a protected area that is littered with tens of thousands of tons of plastic waste.
This is an incredibly important area both for Hawaiians and for the world, with extensive coral reefs that are home to over 7,000 marine species, one quarter of which are found only in the Hawaiian Archipelago.
![]()
The area is one of the planet’s great biodiversity hotspots, and is
one of the largest marine conservation areas in the world. It encompasses 139,797 square miles of the Pacific Ocean which also puts it directly in the path of
millions of tons of floating plastic waste. This plastic, including an ever-increasing amount of derelict fishing nets, is damaging the pristine coral reefs as well as directly impacting the health of the endangered Hawaiian monk seal population.
WE ARE 100% COMMITTED TO HELPING OUR PLANET - ARE YOU?

FAQs
How is the ByFusion machine powered?
The ByFusion machine can be configured to run on propane gas or electricity. Propane gas is ideal in supporting its mobility especially in times of natural disasters. We are currently in talks with the innovative, emerging solar companies to create a solar powered ByFusion machine.
When will the ByFusion machine be available in the US?
Thanks to you, we are targeting May 2, 2017. We'll keep you posted every step of the journey!
Has ByFusion been recognized for its capabilities?
YES! We were so happy to be awarded the Northeast CleanTech Open ACRE Award for Sustainability in October 2015.

What can RePlast block be used for today?
Currently,
RePlast blocks are structured as a fit-for-purpose material. This means we are
able to control the density and weight of the current block material. In the
US, they are perfect for walling applications, non-inhabited structures (park
facilities, warehouses, rest areas, roadways projects, additional layers to
enhance insulating properties and acoustics to name a few.
Outside
of the US, RePlast can be to build single-story, single family homes and other
inhabited spaces up.
What does fit-for-purpose mean?
For RePlast, fit-for-purpose means that it meets the required standard for the job it is intended to perform. Since RePlast is customizable in shape, density and weight, it can perform many different jobs or serve many different purposes.
Are the RePlast blocks fire resistant?
Currently,
and without additional additives, RePlast holds similar fire rating to that of
Trex lumber. Fire retardants, can be used during the manufacturing
process to enhance its resistance. Additional testing is required.
How heavy are the RePlast blocks?
We are able to control the weight/density of RePlast. We can make them anywhere from 8 - 27 lbs/3.5 - 12 Kg.
This RePlast blocks you see in the pictures above are 22 lbs/10 kg.
Do you need special tools to install RePlast?
No. RePlast is currently configured to stack like a Lego! No glues, mortars or adhesives are required either. Check out our video to see how RePlast works.
How long as ByFusion been around?
The current pilot machine came to life in 2012 and our next generation designs and more R&D have been underway ever since. ByFusion PBC opened its doors in July 2015.
Can you drill into RePlast?
Yes! You bet.
